“Onboarding takes up too much time.”

Time Tracking 🤝 Payroll 🤝
Time Tracking is a Justworks product that allows hourly employees to clock in and clock-out of work. With the recent launch of Justworks Payroll, Time Tracking needed to be available for those customers.
This is how we not only met the goal of automating onboarding but also how we took strides to make Time Tracking a better experience.
Long story short…
We reduced the amount of time our customer success team spent onboarding and creating accounts for customers by 95%.
Rather than taking an hour and a half to onboard new customers, it now takes 5 minutes. Onboarding is so easy, that customers can complete time tracking setup on their own.
Establishing a design point of view
Before getting started on a project, I like to spend time understanding the brief and developing a design point of view. By gathering a range of design insight and product nuances across different design pods, I’m able solve problems with a more holistic view of how our solution will dovetail with the rest of the product.
Prototype
Affinity Mapping
Consolidate feedback to create themes for improving the proposed experience.
Going the extra mile.
Automating the experience wasn’t enough, we looked at the information architecture and asked ourselves, “Are all of these features relevant?”
The reality was that many of our features in Time Tracking were duplicative or not supported in Payroll. Keeping these features would only cause confusion for our customers.
At this point, we brought in our Time Tracking counterparts to speed up the process of deprecating features.
Engineering
Isn’t Dev Mode just the best?
To support hand-off, I setup my Figma files with direct links to Jira tickets so there’s no lost communication between design and engineering.
Reaching our goals
Customers can now
-
The customer just needs to click the enable button and we automate the rest.
-
We’ve reduced the product bloat and created a single source of truth for our customer’s employee information.
-
Rather than needing a customer success team member walk them through onboarding, customers can learn more about Time Tracking and enable the service themselves.
